CPHR Competency Framework

The CPHR Competency Framework details the pathway to the CPHR designation. Based on the 2021 Professional Practice Analysis, the framework is based on a dual-competency model, featuring both the technical (or functional) and general (or enabling) skills, abilities and knowledge necessary to effectively practice human resources.

The CPHR Competency Framework outlines 9 HR Specific Competency Areas and 12 General Competency Areas that candidates for certification must demonstrate in order to be certified. Competencies are written as statement that define the work of a Chartered Professional in Human Resources and are kept up to date through a national professional practice analysis.

The competencies and proficiency levels detailed in the framework represent the minimum requirements to meet CPHR certification.
